John's is locally owned and operated by John and Kathy, who originated and developed the business for over 20 years. John's is an award winning pizza and is well-sought by many regular customers from as far as Shakopee, North Oaks and Hudson, Wisconsin. John's is located at the intersection of Dale, Front and Como in St. Paul between the Minnesota State Capitol and Como Lake.

You can place your current or future pick up/delivery/dine-in orders online or call (651) 488-1922 and our friendly staff will process your order. See our delivery range below. John's has comfortable seating for 82 in our beautiful new dining areas plus an additional 44 on our outside patio, reservations not accepted. John's Pizza Café can take orders hours, days and even weeks in advance to guarantee your timed delivery. With our computerized cash register system you can call again to revise or add to your order. John's delivers any items on our menu! John's also offers large bowls of salads for serving groups. Serving both children and adults? Besides your selections of John's specialty pizzas, John's makes the best cheese or pepperoni pizzas children often prefer plus kids portions of spaghetti and Mac-n-Cheese. We also offer 6 Specialty Meatless Pizzas.

History

John's Pizza Café, Ltd. opened its doors August 29, 1987. John started his restaurant on a shoestring budget, the dream of owning his own business, a love of cooking, and a degree in Restaurant Management from Oklahoma State University.

John's first customers remember a Take N Bake pizza shop just a few steps past the railroad tracks near Como Lake. However, he quickly realized that trying to convince neighbors to go home and turn on their ovens on a humid 95 degree day wasn't going to cut it! The next thing he knew, he was buying an oven, first one and then two, now three. He received loving support from his mother who would often take messages on the phone from customers while he was running a delivery. His daughter, Lisa, often did her homework in the dining room and played Yahtzee with him between orders.

John also quickly realized the low cost, low quality pepperoni pizza business was already saturated.  He started developing his signature gourmet pizzas. He soon discovered that his commitment to improving quality and freshness could only be achieved by “in house” preparation. Today John's slices mushrooms, bakes chicken, marinates and bakes wings, shreds cheese, bakes bread, roasts beef, makes pizza dough and sauce, creates and bakes lasagna and sautés onions, green peppers and croutons.

Since the beginning, John has constantly been incorporating creative pizza ideas.  His “Veggie 2000” was discovered while fly fishing in Belize. His “Spinach Pesto” was launched after meeting a small shop owner from Puget Sound near Seattle. A German chef helped him develop his “Chick-a-Dilly.” He created the “Potato and Artichoke” pizza after an experience in a quaint restaurant in San Francisco. Fishing in northern Minnesota inspired him to explore the possibilities of Minnesota wild rice.

John consistently pursues quality in his products, but also operates from an understanding that you cannot grow a business without taking into consideration the health of your customers. Freshness, quality and use of olive oil exclusively is so important to John's success, but taking these ingredients and developing creative pizzas and hoagies puts John's Pizza Café over the top.
